The Nest (2020), directed by Sean Durkin, is a slow-burn psychological drama that delves deep into the unraveling lives of an ambitious couple, exploring themes of ambition, power, and the destructive effects of materialism. The film is a haunting, introspective look at the American dream gone awry, punctuated by subtle performances and a tense, atmospheric setting.

Plot & Storyline 🏠

Set in the 1980s, The Nest follows Rory O'Hara (played by Jude Law), an ambitious businessman who convinces his wife Allison (played by Carrie Coon) and their two children to leave their comfortable life in the US and relocate to a grand estate in the English countryside. Rory believes that this move will elevate his career and fulfill his vision of success, as he takes a position in a new business venture that he promises will provide them with a life of wealth and prestige. However, what starts as an opportunity for a better life soon turns into a tense, disillusioning experience as their seemingly perfect world begins to crack.

As Rory becomes increasingly consumed with his desire for success, the family's life begins to fall apart. His marriage to Allison deteriorates as she becomes disillusioned with his lies and the luxurious but hollow life he's trying to build. The mansion they move into becomes a symbol of their fractured relationship and the tension between their idealized dreams and the harsh realities of their lives. Rory's persistent self-deception and inability to confront his failures result in a slow, inevitable collapse.
